So the other day I participated in the rite of passage known as wisdom teeth removal...

Now don't get me wrong, yo, I'm cool with being in a drug-induced euphoria while in the dentist office as opposed to my usual dread, but seriously, this shit is PAINFUL. This is also the worst time ever to be constantly craving a dank-ass bacon and pastrami burger.

Haha I almost wish I were kidding about a few of these. This is totally legit, I didn't clean it out for you kids or anything.

First off I have my sparkly, leopard print wallet. I've had it since 9th grade and it will never get old.

Next to that I have my sunglasses from Urban Outfitter. I bargained with a cranky salesman to give me a discount because they're slightly broken. I won.

Above the sunglasses is a bottle of perfume from my France trip last summer called 'Juste un Baiser' (just a kiss). [:

Next to the sunglasses is my key thingy with all of my obnoxious key fobs.

Other side of my keys we have two bags of the same sour candy, both opened. Ya know, I guess sometimes a girl just needs more than one. And needs to have them both open at the same time. PS, that is seriously the best candy in the world. The only candy I will ever need is plain milk chocolate, and those things.

Oh, between my keys and my candy is my favorite body spray from Bath and Body Works. It's their newest one called Forever Sunshine. I bought the spray, mini lotions and full sized body cream. I love it. One of the mini bottles you can see thurr at the bottom of the picture.

Between the wallet and the body spray are all the essentials; gum, miniature sewing kit, floss, tic tacs, nail file, contact case.

Ahahaa. Last but not least, a Wal Mart name tag that obviously (and thankfully) doesn't belong to me. I somehow ended up with my friend's name tag in my purse the other day. Love my life..

A clean face.

It's nights like last night that bring out the dramatic teen side in me. Because, okay, in all honesty I definitely feel like most of the time I'm more mature than my peers in high school. I'm usually not one for the he-said-she-said-but-I-HEARD blahblahblah cry-in-a-corner bullshit. Because bullshit is exactly what it is.

When things come out from trustworthy people in a situation where everyone is.. well, forced to be honest, it puts things in perspective.

I guess there isn't much you can really do in a situations like this except take away with you that you can't trust so many people. It doesn't have to ruin your life; you don't have to talk shit because you're upset or mope around. All you can do is keep your dignity. Be diplomatic with others and wise about who you trust.

For me, one of the most comforting things in life is knowing that above everyone, you can always have faith in yourself. Never fall below your expectations of yourself and it makes it so much easier if people around you end up falling short.

Not that people will do that on a regular basis, but it does happen, and ya can't make it life any less kick-ass!

When we were at Grand Central Station, there was actually a wedding right in the middle of that big ole entrance with the blue painted ceiling. It was the most adorable thing in the world, and I ain't even one of those wedding tear sappy romantic type of broads. The woman was oriental and the man was Jewish; this fact plus the gorgeous dress and bridesmaid dresses made the whole scene amazing. Oh, and the man cried. Tears of joy, obvs.

Fun fact.. did you know that if you mix mayo and ketchup together it's super amazing sauce for fries and burgers and such? Around my neck of the woods we call it fry sauce. Original, eh? But for srs, if you go to a local burger joint around here they usually just give it to you with your meal. It's kind of a given.

I've never been much for the maxi dress thing, but this one is enough to make me reconsider. Love the detailing, the piece is very bohemian meets victorian. Unexpected but amazing.

Speaking of maxi dresses worming their way into my fashion palette, at the Modest Mouse show Thursday night I passed this tall, thin specimen of a female wearing a loose black t-shirt paired with some chunky necklaces. Her bottom half was clad in a nearly floor length black and white horizontally striped skirt with a pair of clogs on her feet a la Chanel..

I only saw her for a second but as you can see, her image has been branded on my brain ever since!

What's one trend you used to find less-than-appealing that you now find on your mind and on your blog everyday? I wanna know!

I always get so many images piled up in my head (and on my hard drive) that I want to post, but I'm not a big fan of the let-me-leave-you-with-one-picture-that's-it blog approach. Take me back to the cobblestone streets. The magic in the air is so thick you can taste it.. each boy and girl more beautiful than the next, every couple is deeply in love. Take me away from this place where every girl's highest aspiration is to get married at age 19 and have 6 children. I miss the city on fire. Tears come to my eyes just remembering being in that beautiful place. Being there made me feel surrounded by love and beauty and made me feel as if life is wonderful. Here, I feel nothing. I want to escape to my city.

Sorry for the recent lack of posts, it's been a pretty busy week. I start school on Tuesday unfortunately, so my friends and I have been trying to make the most of our last week of summer.

This fall I'll be channeling Isabel Marant with thigh high boots, lots of layers and of course, as usual lots of grey. Definitely one of the better Fall collections I've seen! If you have any suggestions for other good ones be sure to let me know. [:

The best thing about white walls is the fact that they're a blank slate. Clean, bright, new. I like new. In fact, I'm allergic to old. - I constantly rotate the walls of my world, each time painting a brand new coat of white. Fresh start. Then I live, covering my beautiful white walls with photographs and memories. A new scent settles.

But then boredom ensues once more, causing me to rip of all remnants of that with which I'm so bored. I repaint. Because things are simply better that way; new walls, new scent, new photographs and memories. Even though memories are never really new.

These pictures are so amazing. The epitome of cool earthy hippie children who don't give a fuck.

Warped Tour was a thousand times better than I thought it would be! Even the bands I think are completely rediculous were so fun. We ended up seeing:

-The Maine
-All Time Low
-Escape the Fate
-P.O.S.
-Forever the Sickest Kids
-Attack Attack!
-Cobra Starship
-3Oh!3
-Bad Religion

I went mostly for P.O.S. and Bad Religion, but the only show I didn't completely enjoy was Attack Attack! and that's because I hate screamo and my feet were way too dead from moshing by then. Escape the Fate had the best moshing, it was so much fun. P.O.S. was DEFINITELY the highlight of my day though, if you haven't already listened to him be sure to check it out. He really knows how to put on a great show, his words are so powerful and his dj is completely sick. Joints were being passed around in the audience too; it was so strange to be in a place where there was underage cigarette smoking (among other things) all over the place and not one of the security guards or police men gave a shit. Really not what I'm used to, but it was so liberating.

Just a thought, but if you ever consider paying big money to see 3Oh!3, don't. They're not good live, haha at all. It was still a fun show, but definitely not quality. The best part of 3Oh!3 was when I got to crowdsurf! :D I crowdsurfed at Forever the Sickest Kids as well. I didn't get very far either of the times but it was still so much fun!

Such a great day. I'll be thinking about it for quite a while I'm sure.

If you've been following my twitter updates, you'll know that for my birthday on Monday I recieved a book entitled "The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui way of knowledge" by Carlos Castenada. The book describes an alleged apprenticeship of sorts between Castenada and a Yaqui indian man named Don Juan in Arizona in the early sixties. Carlos describes his experiences with Peyote among other hallucinagenics, which in Yaqui culture(and most all other indian cultures) is thought of as a gateway to alternate realities and a way to alter a person's perception of the world.

Today while I was talking to my mom about my thoughts of the book so far, she told me that the book was fake. All of it, fabricated. After going through stages of anger and denial (ha ha), I did some speedy google-ing on the subject. Apparently, to the majority of the public, the book is indeed a fabrication. Indicated by the fact that there were/are no known witnesses other than Castenada himself to the teachings, chronological errors, and comparisons between claims made in the book and Carlos' library stack requests at the University of California. (In the book, on the date that Carlos claims he was participating in a traditional Peyote, uhh, distribution ceremony.. he was actually sitting in the library reading someone else's account of such a ceremony, according to stack request history.)

While I believe that much of the book is made up, I think that Carlos Castenada was trying to open people's minds. The rituals and ceremonies he spoke of are entirely real, along with the mythology and beliefs surrounding traditional shamans and brijos. The native american culture is full of old wisdom and sage yet mysterious beliefs (although, I admit that as a daughter of an anthropology professor, I'm slightly biased). But how many of us western Europeans would believe, or even consider taking seriously a work of fiction? Which is why Castenada, in my opinion, chose to fill in the blanks with imaginary trips to Arizona to visit the mysterious Don Juan of Yaqui wisdom. He is trying to open passages to parts of our mind and fields of perception we didn't even know we had by creating a story, and describing the events as non-fictional.

I applaud Carlos for attempting (and succeeding, for the most part) to introduce new concepts to western culture. Hallucinagens are often misused, and I really like the idea of using things from the earth to create a new world, a "non-ordinary reality" in Carlos' words. If I could try Peyote for myself I would, but I don't think I'm quite in the mental state to do so, plus it's probably not the right time in my life anyway, and there's the issue of even acquiring it... so yeah. But someday.

Plus, how many students are lucky enough to have millions of copies sold of their masters thesis?!

Isabelle Mcnally's apartment. I'm pretty sure they're a little older but I'm in love all the same, and I especially like how she has a book entitled 'Hacking for Dummies'. She seems like she would be a badass chick to hang out with.. in all her interviews she comes off a little strange, but that's how I like 'em!

I've had a thing for interior design lately. White walls, diverse art, vintage furniture, good quality wood, and more white white white white, everywhere.

Oh and happy 16th birthday to myself today, and Melissa from Amarillo yesterday. We kick ass.

1. I'm on my computer EVERY DAY without fail.

2. I could marry my iPhone, partly because of the internet access.

3. I take (just a little bit of) pride in my broad range of music tastes. On my itunes you can find anything from Sufjan Stevens to The Beatles to The Doors to Santogold to Slayer to Iron Maiden to Crass to Sex Pistols to M.I.A.... you get the idea. Lately I've been listening to mostly The Doors, Sufjan, The Shins and Modest Mouse.

4. I'm cynical and jaded beyond my years, and am constantly making sarcastic comments, a la Miranda from Sex and the City.

5. In 8th grade I was published in some book called Celebrate! Young Poets....

6. I feel way too free-thinking to live in the Mormon capitol of America.

7. I'm obsessed with the counter-culture of the late sixties/early seventies, I'm always looking to learn more about Woodstock or hippies or drug culture of the time period. It's all so interesting to me.

I love the feeling of the pencil in your hand, the sound of graphite scratching on the paper (this is what feelings sound like). I love the look of the grey doodles against the white background (this is different behind the screen). I like the way my thoughts look, out of my head, appearing on the page, slowly with each letter (this needs no explanation).

I like the way it feels at night, on the street. 2 am, and you pass a tiny square window, lit by the television's electronic glow. That is the most conforting thing in the world: seeing that little blue square on the wall a few yards away, three dimensional against a black background. Maybe it's because it makes you feel not so alone. But you would never admit you didn't, right?
If you're ever lonely, come to my window. I'll be here, I promise. Just me and my words... me. And then you... and then I'm no longer lonely. Me and you. And then I don't need that little square of blue light to hold my hand. Me and you.

I once heard a quote: "We say we exchange words when we meet. What we exchange is souls." To me they are the same thing. You see the words are just an extension of the soul, the part we're brave enough to let people see. Only really lucky people can see all of someone's soul if they're allowed in. What an amazingly perfect thing to be a part of. Someday I want to feel this beauty.

Stella + Sigrid + Bambi

There seem to be alot of mixed reviews about this campaign so far, but I think it's just about the sweetest thing I've ever seen. Sigrid herself is such a natural doe-eyed beauty, the cartoons make it fun and childish in a good way. Although the photographs would be great without Bambi and friends, it's an unexpected twist that makes it really whimsical. Love it so much!

It has been nice to have a whole weekend of legal fun, aside from driving to Wyoming in search of exciting fireworks. Yesterday 2 friends and I drove down to Salt Lake City to shop, and after displaying that my checking account had "insufficient funds", I had to take out money from savings at an atm. Ouch.
Since I won't have a real job until school starts again, I REALLY need to at least cut down on spending money. You would be surprised at how easy it is to spend what you don't have!

How lucky I am to live in a place where a lake to swim in is a mere hop, skip and an hour away! The only setback is that the water at said lake is freezing all year round.. damn snow.

Alexandra and Theodora Richards looked really gorgeous in the July issue of Glamour. It's hard to wear much else but white during the summer, at least for me.

Dash Snow was an artist living in New York City. His art was controversial - he was known for slightly illicit photos and using his own semen as a medium. He died of an alleged drug overdose on Monday night. Really tragic.. the good die young.

I decided to create a new blog, and most likely will abandon and delete exquis illusiore. I get bored easily, and am enticed by the idea of change. I'm curious as to what will happen.. most of the subject matter will be the same, hopefully with a few more text heavy posts, higher image quality, and overall more organization. I could have done this on my old blog, but I needed an overall fresh start.
